Design for the First World

Deadline Extended till July 1st. Help saving the first world from itself!  You need to live a developing nation to participate and there is 1000 lollars price. You can support this project at Kickstarter too if you will :)

My friend Carolina invited me to be jury at the competition Design for the first World. The main goal is to offer solutions designed from a “developing world” perspective to the developed world:

What does it mean to be a developing country? Among other things it means that the future is to become developed. We are on our way toward development, and we assume that’s a great thing, but let’s stop to consider for a minute whether developed countries are something we want to turn into. Are people in developed countries happier or healthier? Do they live a better life? Do they have a better understanding of nature and live in a better equilibrium with the environment? Do they live in peace?

We have been focusing our energy and resources on trying to solve our Developing World problems to become more like the First World. But perhaps it is time that we, the so called Third World minds, focused our energy and creativity on solving some of the First World problems. We will have a brighter future to look forward to, and perhaps this can help us rethink and approach our current problems from a different perspective.

Catching up with some very good old news about my projects.

My dearest inCUBATE talks a bit about Tanda Foundation and the soon to be lanunched, Artists Run League and very interesting issues regarding independent funding and profit vs non-profit, at the Podcast of Bad at Sports.

Montreal’s newspaper Le Devoir published “Main basse sur La Ville” article, about the exhibition “Actions: What you can with the city” with a section about Forays’ Edible Excess and our rants about greenwashing in french.

Francesca Galeazzi offset her carbon emmisions in the North Pole. I wish i have done this myself. I’m so envious. Just lovely.

I haven’t done anything bad. because I have offset the carbon emissions generated by the CO2 cylinder, through an online Gold Standard Carbon Offsetting scheme! Cool no? This is great stuff. one can go about consciously polluting the world, wasting energy, producing tonnes of waste and abusing natural resources without feeling guilty at all!! One can simply pay somebody to compensate for his/her ‘bad’ actions somewhere else, and become Carbon Neutral!

Don’t you think this is great?

I don’t know what she mean with “bad” actions, though. I wish moral were supressed from the climate discussion. Is so akward.! Specially when you are actually doing something good!
