Design for the First World

Deadline Extended till July 1st. Help saving the first world from itself!  You need to live a developing nation to participate and there is 1000 lollars price. You can support this project at Kickstarter too if you will :)

My friend Carolina invited me to be jury at the competition Design for the first World. The main goal is to offer solutions designed from a “developing world” perspective to the developed world:

What does it mean to be a developing country? Among other things it means that the future is to become developed. We are on our way toward development, and we assume that’s a great thing, but let’s stop to consider for a minute whether developed countries are something we want to turn into. Are people in developed countries happier or healthier? Do they live a better life? Do they have a better understanding of nature and live in a better equilibrium with the environment? Do they live in peace?

We have been focusing our energy and resources on trying to solve our Developing World problems to become more like the First World. But perhaps it is time that we, the so called Third World minds, focused our energy and creativity on solving some of the First World problems. We will have a brighter future to look forward to, and perhaps this can help us rethink and approach our current problems from a different perspective.

Electrified Summercamp!
June 17th -27th Gent, Brussels

Timelab invited me to their awesome fablab in Gent!

From june 17 till 27 the second edition of Summercamp Electrified will take place in Ghent. Summercamp Electrified is a ten day intensive encounter between 12 local and international artists with the city as a setting and timelab as a motor. Openness and exchange is at the heart of the summercamp. We are inviting artists with original ideas and an adventurous spirit who are open to collaborate with artists working in other fields. De backgrounds of the artists are very diverse. Whereas workshops for artists often attract people working in the same fields or niches, we are explicitly aiming for a very diverse group or artists.

There is not one specific theme for the Summercamp, but there are some red threads we would like to offer:

* the city as a lab, actions in public space
* the triangle timelab is working in : art, technology, society
* an important theme running through timelab’s activities in the next year : ‘re-spark!’ – the idea of re-ensouling, re-using, re-appropriating, upcycling ideas/objects/projects

Summercamp Electrified is a collaboration between timelab and Vooruit Arts Centre and is supported by Interreg in the context of Transdigital

Teorias del Caos: Post-Digital Archives with Karin Ajaxon

TEORIAS DEL CAOS. Saturday 21 12pm

ON & OFF line picnic with Karin Ajaxon@ La Miscelánea in Mexico City (bring munchies to share!) – and via Bambuser on the Internets.

Post Digital Archives:

So we can all agree that we live in a digital era – fair enough the extent differs depending on which society we live in – but it has reached a great part of the civilization and affect our everyday lives. This however seems to create a need or want to go past the digital, to explore the post-digital world, as Rasmus Fleischer puts it his recent book. Now this relates to music, we search for places and experiences where we can share music – AFK – postdigitally. So how does this relate to libraries, books and the developments that are emerging in that sphere?

The Alternative Economy Cultures Seminar at Pixelache was truly amazing! I think my brain is slighter bigger now after haning out with Felix Stadler, Michael Bauwens and Sara Sajjad, Here is a little video of the amazing conversation about banks, money, funding and participation held at Demos, Helsinki and don’t miss the video documentation of the whole seminar!.

We broke the latest Tanda Foundation widget and we donate the 27 euros collected  towards covering some production costs of the event. There is a little nice video on Bambuser about it.

Special thanks to Andrew Patterson and many thanks to Jon, Minna, Nathalie, Olly and Juha!

Good luck UVVA and Free Warsaw :)

Arquitecture, Space and Politics seminar was amazing,  (thanx Nasrin!), Mr. Baghat did perform like king (sorry Prince) on helium, the keynotes were very inspiring and i loved the abandoned tires everywhere in Montréal.

More pics at Forays’ site soon! Documentation is almost ready…
