An update from Mexico City

*stored in*: * — 2:16 am

Dear Internets: Just wanted to let you know what is really going on in Mexico City for the last 3 days.

Is Disinformation…and it sucks :( .  Maybe is more like an EPIMEDIA, a viral collective hysteria/paranoia, fed by Media, people, twits, newspapers, assumptions, rumours, fake conclusions, updates that don’t update and the super loose and weak goverment announcements

All together seems to be a genetically engineered virus that re-arrange every morning to hide information and make everything more confusing.  We really need vaccines for EPIMEDIA. There is nothing in wikipedia and i google it .. but there are no images for it. blah.

Stay Calm. Stay informed. Well we are missing one thing in this equation…

The Pål Hollender Foundation for Ethically or Aesthetically Offended Consumers of Culture

*stored in*: * — Tags: , , — 8:33 pm

The Swedish performance artist and filmmaker Pål Hollender, who in 2003 invested SKr100,000 (around €11,000) in “unethical” companies, has distributed SKr32,500 (€3,235) in “scholarships” derived from the returns. The grants were awarded to visitors last month to “The Pål Hollender Foundation for Ethically or Aesthetically Offended Consumers of Culture” at Malmö Art Museum in southern Sweden.

Hollender’s foundation is itself the work of art, which is owned by the Malmö museum. Physically it consists of 13 boxes, where visitors can post their applications for a scholarship. A text on the wall outlines the foundation’s constitution. The money the scholarship holders receive is intended “to promote insight or further education among cultural consumers with respect to what is commonly thought of as respectable culture”. Applicants must sign a declaration stating that they feel or have felt offended either ethically or aesthetically by culture.

Green capitalism: the blog

*stored in*: *, Other Options — 10:58 pm

That’s right. Green capitalism.com

According to the About section of this hell yawwwn of a blog is SO easy!!! Ride a bike and eat organic. Fulfill your desire to be “GREEN” , so you can save money to buy in the future.

There is a seemingly-glaring contradiction between being “green” and being a “capitalist”. From the prices of organic produce at the grocery store, it would appear that I could save money by purchasing conventional produce. Saving money so that I can purchase other goods in the future defines capitalism: the trade of goods and services for money. By choosing not to purchase organic or local produce, I am contributing to myriad environmental and social problems. In other areas of my life I act in accordance with my environmental and social beliefs. For example, I ride my bicycle eight miles round-trip to work each day: rain or shine. I do this for many reasons:

  • It is good for my health.
  • It is good for the environment.
  • It saves money on gas, insurance, and car maintenance.

What other behaviors would both exemplify my desire to be “green” and to have money to purchase the goods and services that I want in the future?

Fuck.Green. and eco-zoombies ugh!

OO-Oct 4th: FOOD + Nato Thompson talk.

*stored in*: * — 4:52 pm

Date: Sat., Oct. 4 | Screening: 4PM, talk: 5PM, free. Eyebeam.

FOOD (Gordon Matta-Clark, 1972, 43 min.) is a film documenting the legendary SoHo restaurant and artists‘ cooperative that opened in 1971.  FOOD was designed and built largely by Matta-Clark, who also organized art events and performances there. As a social space, meeting ground, and ongoing art project for the emergent artists‘ community, FOOD was a landmark in the history and mythology of 1970s SoHo. The screening will be introduced by Robert Kushner (manager, FOOD ‘72 – ’74).

Nato Thompson, Creative Time curator, and writer on political art and culture, will speak about the prospects for alternative, or “radical”, infrastructures as support systems for work and ideas that may not fit easily into institutional frameworks. He will respond to the work of Other Options as possibilities for a new vocabulary on experimental practices that makes transparent the contexts and power structures in which the work is produced.
